Drosophila (Sophophora) quadrangula Gao et Toda, 2009
Remark: This species resembles D. limingi from a highland (approximately 1950 m a.s.l.) in Yunnan, south-western China and D. tsukubaensis from Japan and China, in having the following characters in combination: small body size; male foreleg first tarsomere distinctly longer than second one; both sex-combs moderate in size with respect to their relative lengths to respective tarsomeres (approximately one-third to two-fifths for the proximal, and one-half to three-fifths for the distal sex-combs); relatively large median piece of tenth sternite; aedeagal lateral plate apically triangularly expanded; apically pointed and curved paramere. However, the new species can be distinguished from D. limingi and D. tsukubaensis by the quadrate median piece of tenth sternite and the dorso-caudal corner of surstylus lacking any projection (in D. limingi and D. tsukubaensis, median piece of tenth sternite somewhat polygonal; surstylus with hook-shaped projection at dorso-caudal corner).
Distribution: Malaysia (Sabah).
