Drosophila (Sophophora) hypercephala Gao et Toda, 2009
Remark: This species shows general morphological similarity to those of the D. obscura species subgroup. It resembles D. subsilvestris Hardy et Kaneshiro, 1968 from Europe and Central Asia and D. dianensis from a highland (about 1950 m a.s.l.) in Yunnan, southwestern China, in having the following characters in combination: foreleg first tarsomere distinctly longer than second one; aedeagal lateral plate apically not expanded in lateral view; aedeagal median membrane hirsute; tenth sternite broad. However, this species can be distinguished from these species in that both the proximal and distal sex-combs consist of more than 5 nearly parallel teeth arranged in an only slightly oblique row against the main axes of the tarsomeres and that the oviscapt bears the apically blunt, peg-like ovisensillum at the caudo-dorsal corner and the subterminal, trichoid ovisensillum thinner than the caudodorsal one and shorter than the width of oviscapt distal portion (in D. subsilvestris and D. dianensis, distal sex-comb consisting of less than 5 teeth; both sex-combs strongly oblique against main axes of tarsomeres, with outside-most teeth distally diverged outwards; caudo-dorsal ovisensillum trichoid; subterminal ovisensillum as thick as caudo-dorsal one and longer than the width of oviscapt distal portion).
Distribution: Malaysia (Sabah).
