Associate professor HEHUANGXIE have received rigorous scientific trainings in computational biology, molecular/cellular biology and genetics. After his postdoc training, he worked closely with neuroscientists in Falk Brain Tumor Center, Northwestern University for seven years to investigate the epigenetic aberrations in pediatric brains (cerebellum, SVZ and ependymomas). Since 2012, He have established a laboratory at Virginia Tech which combines multidisciplinary approaches to study epigenetic regulatory networks associated with tissue development and cell specification. As an independent PI, he have published a number of papers, including corresponding-author manuscripts in Nature Communications, Genome Research, Epigenetics & Chromatin, etc. Over the last decade, he have developed high-throughput sequencing techniques to generate large-scale “omics” data including Alu-anchored genome-wide bisulfite sequencing technique and hairpin bisulfite sequencing approach. In addition, his lab has implemented a number of computational pipelines to perform high-throughput sequencing data analysis for RNAseq, ChIPseq, methylome sequencing and single cell sequencing data.
