为了管理和保护生物多样性,科学家们必须知道什么物种正在哪里消失、为什么消失,以及哪些补救措施最有效。我们将基因组学与分子技术、分类学结合起来,研究出了监测生物多样性构成和变化的方法,作为人为干扰和自然压力梯度的函数。真核生物很难建立参考数据库,也很难进行定量检测,因此最近我们正在研究有效监测真核生物的宏基因组方法,研究对象包括花粉、线虫和螨虫。
2.互利共生演化研究:利用博弈论来解释互利共生的演化以及微生物组合的研究。
为了理解多细胞生物是如何进化和加强合作行为的,我们调整了微观经济学中的博弈论来解释这些现象。我们的理论和实验表明,寄主可以从环境中使用筛选机制来组装起自我防卫的微生物组合,寄主主要使用预适应来惩罚共生体的错误行为,共生体也可以通过共同进化密码分子来与互作寄主进行可靠的沟通。从微粒的扩散到合作捕猎,到对公共资源的可持续管理,利用非线性的效益函数可以解释这些生物组合稳定合作和公共物品生产的方式。
