经退行性疾病是一类慢性、随着年龄增长或疾病进程发展进行性加重的神经系统疾病,年龄是这类疾病最重要的风险因素,但这类疾病发病机制尚不完全清楚,越来越多的证据显示表观遗传改变在脑衰老和神经退行性疾病中有重要的作用。研究方向是利用现代分子生物学和生物信息学方法手段,结合疾病动物模型,探索和发现特异性表观遗传调控系统变化在神经退行性疾病病变过程中发生的作用及意义。主要研究内容包括:探讨组蛋白乙酰化和甲基化修饰,脑组织特异性非编码RNAs(ncRNAs)以及DNA甲基化和去甲基化的特异性变化在特定类型的神经元功能及退行性病变过程的影响及分子机制等方面;另外,创建神经退行性疾病灵长类动物模型也是的主要研究内容之一。
